Brake, Clutch and Accelarator. Or, more precisely, the left one is the damper, and puts felts under the hammers, and moves the hammers so they each stroke only two out of three strings; the middle pedal, usually found on grand and baby grand pianos and not on smaller uprights, in this case is a sustain for the bass notes (sometimes it’s a pedal that sustains the notes you’re holding down, even after you let go, until you release the pedal, but that’s more for a grand piano than a baby grand) and the rightmost pedal is sustain, and keeps the dampers away from the strings so the notes continue sounding after you let go of the keys. Poor and mediocre players like me overuse the sustain pedal a lot, because it gives you more time to get to the next note.
