Wall Piece, in Edinburgh, Lothianshire, Scotland more
We had a dinner at the Royal Museum in Edinburgh and they gave us permission to take photographs, as long as no flash was allowed.
This item’s caption reads as follows:
WALL PIECE
Ruth Duckworth, like Coper and Rie, was a refugee. Born in Hamburg in 1909, she came to Britain in 1936 and studied sculpture and ceramics at Liverpool School of Art, Kennington School of Art, Hammersmith School of Art and the Central School of Art.
She began by making tableware, moving on to large heavy coiled pots which were an innovation in the 1960s. In 1964 she accepted a teaching post in the U.S.A. where she still lives and works. There, her most important creations are the large stoneware murals she has been commissioned to make for banks and other piublic buildings.
