Church of San Giorgio dei Tedeschi 3: Caption, in Pisa, Tuscany, Italy more
The church was built in 1316 in memory of the German soldiers who had died in the battle of Montecatini; later on it was called San Giorgio degli Innocenti because it was annexed to the ‘Ospedale dei Trovatelli’ (hospital of the foundlings); in 1784 it was annexed to the Ospedali Riuniti di Santa Chiara. Its plan is an aisleless one made of bricks with traces of frescoed escutcheons on the outside. The interior, restored from 1722, keeps a wooden “Crucifix” by a German artist from the XIV century and a rich decoration of gilt stuccoes and paintings from the XVIII century.
