Crandall New Model (1886)
Crandall Machine Company, New York, USA

“The first typewriter to use a single type-element.”

This was the first typewriter to print using a single type-element (with no type-bars) – well before IBM’s “Golf ball” that appeared in 1961. This typewriter boasts a wonderful Victorian design with inlaid mother-of-pearl.
