Notes:

This headstone is engraved with Aboriginal designs, including a teepee or wigwam (it’s too stylized for me to tell which), canoes or coracles, clouds and birds, and, wrenchingly, lists some forty names, headed “loving memories of” and with the words:

safe in the arms of jesus
we shall meet on the beautiful shore

The names inside the teepee are:

Bearskin, G. Bearskin, J. Bearskin L. Bearskin R. Benjamin, OM. Canapawsit, J. ekoomiak, J. Fireman, G. SR. Fortchimo, M. JR. Fortchimo, M. SR. Fortchimo, W. Head, A. Kanatewat, H. M. Lameboy, J. Linklater C. (Louttit) Matches, S. [column break] Neacappo, D. Nine O’Clock, J. Pachano, J. Pachano, M. Paul W. (H. Ont.) Quartermaster, G. Ratt, J. SR. Rednose, R. Sam, F. Sam, W., SR. Sandy, E. Sandy, J. Sealhunter, E. (L. Ont.) Sealhunter, J. Shashamiush M. (Masty) Sheep, E.

Underneath the teepee:

Matawaham, A. Matthew, S. L. Napash, H. Napash, J.J. Johnston, J. Shem, R. Snowboy, J. (Inuit) Snowboy, S. Washapabano, D.
